Introduction

Before I begin the blog, I heartily wish everyone a happy Navarathri, specifically, Maha Panchami. I wish Goddess Skandamata to shower happiness and peace over this world. In my previous blog, I had mentioned my new journey as an Author. I am excited to share more about my book on this blog.

Navarathri is indeed a special festival as the whole of India celebrates this festival, with each state adding its own special touch. This Navarathri feels a bit more special to me as the idea behind the theme of my book was this festival. The initial idea was to narrate different rituals and stories behind each day of the Navarathri, but it turned into something more special.

So, what is it?

Each day of Navarathri celebrates one goddess symbolizing peace, health, prosperity, wisdom, etc. However, these goddesses are manifestations of one supreme goddess. The one who governs over all of us, including the Trimurtis – Bramha, Vishnu, Maheshwara. She carries the entire universe, including the living and the non-living. She is the ultimate Creator, Preserver, and Destroyer. She is the one with all three Gunas – Rajoguna, Sattvaguna, and Tamoguna.

So, who is she?

Presenting the cover and title of my first book, which is all about the stories of the supreme mother of the universe:

Background of my book

When I started the research for this book, each source had different narratives and stories about each goddess. Finding one true source was difficult as these stories have been passed down several generations across different regions of India. As I explored, I found two sources that mentioned different stories of the universal mother, Devi Bhagavati. Those sources were Devi Bhagavata Purana and Markandeya Purana. Heavily based on the Devi Bhagavata Purana, the book explores different stories of Devi Bhagavati Bhuvaneshwari.

Connection between my book and Navarathri

The theme of Navarathri is victory of good over evil. The stories in my books also follow the same theme – triumph of Devi Bhagavati over evil demons. This book depicts how evil enjoys all the glories of the three worlds, but when it goes beyond limits, Devi Bhagavati ensures to bring back the balance of the universe.

Why did I choose this theme?

As a child, I always believed in these goddesses as they were my strength and inspiration. Durga Ma gave me courage, Saraswathi Devi gave me wisdom, Lakshmi Devi gave me opportunities in life, and so on. Every Navarathri, I perform pooja and pray with pure devotion, and I believe this dedication paved way for the good vibes in my life. Hence, when I got the idea of writing a mythological book, retelling the stories of these goddesses was a no-brainer choice for me.

The second reason for the book is its relevance to the current time and situation. Every day, I hear or read stories about how women are being victims of assault. At the same time, I also hear stories of how women are taking charge against all the atrocities happening to them. This book is my way of reminding women our true power and our determination to achieve greatness.

Another reason for this book is our future generation and how it is important that the fascinating stories from Indian mythology reach them too. All I see are stories from Ramayana or Mahabharata but very few of Indian goddesses. Hence, with this book, I wish to share a different perspective of Indian mythology.

On the auspicious day of Vijayadashami (October 2nd, 2025) which indicates new beginnings and is generally considered a good day for new ventures, my book – Legends of Devi Bhagavati Bhuvaneshwari will be going live. I request all your support and best wishes while I travel this new adventure. I am looking forward to sharing more on October 2nd, 2025. Until then, may the festive vibes of Navarathri and the power of all the goddesses fill your lives with joy and peace.
