Fast-Paced Books That I Loved Reading

Whether it’s a reading slump or building consistency in reading, I would always prefer fast-paced books as they are engaging and keep you hooked until the end without boring you or causing any lag in the story. Such books also help in building a reading habit if you’re looking to have one. And lastly, there is nothing wrong with reading books just for entertainment; in any case, it is still a better choice for entertainment.

The Housemaid series by Freida McFadden

Following the release of the movie of the first book in this series, this book is gaining more traction and rightly so, as the entire series is pretty engaging. While I was mildly disappointed with the movie, the books are definitely worth reading. The suspense in the story is neatly woven with natural darkness, which does not feel artificial. The climax is more or less predictable but does not disappoint.

A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder series by Holly Jackson

I am someone who does not prefer anything that’s way too popular or trending, as I believe it might be overrated. But, boy, was I wrong with this series! I have yet to watch the TV series of the first book in this entire series, but the reading experience was super-entertaining. It quite lives up to the hype, and I completely recommend reading this as the suspense element depicts intelligence in a common but surprising way.

The Lullaby Girl by Loreth Anne White

If you have read my other book recommendation blogs, you’d know that I am a big fan of Loreth’s work. I love her books, and I always wait for her books to be released. In fact, when I had a brief reading slump during my postpartum, it was her book – The Maid’s Diary- that brought me back to the reading route. And The Lullaby Girl was my introduction to the creative world of Loreth Anne White. This book has everything – suspense, thrill, romance, adventure. It is a bliss for every thriller fan out there.

The Forest of Enchantments by Chitra Bannerjee Divakaruni

I loved reading The Palace of Illusions by Chitra, and this was on my wishlist for way too long. Somehow, I always lacked interest in reading any Ramayana-inspired books and hence, did not pick this book up for a long time. But recently, I wanted to pick something challenging for reading, something that fits my routine. This was my pick, and I did not regret it. We all know the story of Ramayana, and some of us even understand the injustice that was done to Maa Sita. This book depicts that and more; it talks about love that one would only crave in a lifetime to find. I loved this book so much that I read it even during my midnight feeds. If you’re looking for an Indian Mythology book, I’d say pick this up.

The Silent Patient by Alex Michalaedes

Ah, the book that made me fall into a reading routine! The one that ensured I built this hobby and do not look back. This book has been recommended by many thriller fans and for all the right reasons. As a thriller fan, it took me a while and a lot of books to read and find something that could match this book. It seriously sets up the expectations, and there is no surprise if you stop all your work just to read this book.

The Four Agreements by Don Miguel Ruiz

To all the non-fiction lovers, I didn’t even expect to add a non-fiction book to this list. I am not a non-fiction reader, and if I pick one, it would be in my ‘currently reading’ list for a long, long time. But this book was an exception. I used to specifically sometimes wake up in the morning only to read this book. A short, no-nonsense read for me, and it helped me understand life from a different, positive perspective. If you want to try a non-fiction book, this would be my recommendation.
