In 2025, I wrote a book – Legends of Devi Bhagavati Bhuvaneshwari, and while this was an unbelievable moment of my life, I was surprised to know how this would help me understand so many things in a better way. Writing a book changed my mentality around books and people in general.
Something of a pipe dream, writing a book takes a lot of mental energy and consistent efforts to sit in one place, waiting for the thoughts to flow to write, and doing the same every day.
A major realisation of writing a book is that the process isn’t as fancy as it sounds. You think that to write a book, one must have deep life experiences, or that authors enjoy overnight success and fame. But the reality is, it takes a lot of time for people to really know about your book. Especially the first book might not get the recognition you think it’ll get. A very few authors (and a great deal of marketing) will experience fame through their debut book.
Before publishing my first book, I had my expectations set. The reality is that Authors are not really celebrated in a country like India. So, I knew not to expect much from my first book. And the reality surprised me. So many people reached out to me, congratulated me on my book, and not only did they purchase the book, but they shared it with their family and friends, encouraging them to buy. That, to me, is a success. It’s not just making money or winning an award; it’s the small things, like someone rooting for you, that’s success.
With AI on a high demand, I was thinking people might not respect Authors as everyone would assume that anyone can become a writer thanks to AI. Boy, was I wrong! The moment I said that I became an Author, I was greeted with utmost respect, the kind that I had for fellow Authors. I know what it takes to become an Author and my audience, well, they know too. And that, my friends, is a hope I have that, after all, humans are still valued in this AI world.
Lastly, after deep diving in the world of writing, if there is one thing that’s changed in me, it’s this – I’d never say ‘bad writing’ anymore 🙂
Writing is a personal journey that stems from our experiences and feelings. Saying someone’s writing is bad is equivalent to invalidating their experiences. That just doesn’t make any sense, does it? So, in my opinion, writing is a pure emotion, and I respect all writers. Also, this is me very subtly trying to include the link to my book – Click here to read my book!
