What? Why are you talking about this topic here?
Wait? Aren’t you supposed to write it like this – s**?
What is wrong with her? Why does she want kids to know everything about it?
(To those minds that are lingering on such questions) Guys, chill! If we really consider sex a taboo, then India would be the least populated country. So it is time to address the elephant in the room – Why is Sex Education important?
Recently, I have heard a lot of sexual abuse cases all over the nation. While the blame game is continuing, the victim and their families’ suffering hasn’t reduced a tad bit. So, it is high time we consider a solution-based approach.
I saw a video on Instagram that highlighted the solutions which, if implemented rightly, can reduce the physical and mental abuse that has been long running in our nation.
One solution that I am talking about is implementing sex education in Indian schools. Now, when I say sex education, I do not mean separating girls and boys in the class and then explaining about ‘that time of the month’, ‘that thing you need to put’, etc. I mean, including sex education as any other regular subject in school.
I firmly believe that household atmosphere highly influences a child’s behavioral traits. You have violent parents, you shall be hopeless in life, you have pampering parents, you will be a spoilt child, etc. However, I wouldn’t intend to put the entire blame/credit on the child’s upbringing. There are other factors like friends circle, school system, teachers, etc.
Here is why I believe Sex Education is important in India:
- The curious case of children
Kids are curious about many things. From eating mud, pencil, etc., to playing games on mobile phones, they need to try everything to satisfy their curiosity. Hence, they will definitely be curious to know how they were born, and it is okay to be honest with them. You don’t have to indulge in details, but honest explanation is necessary.
- The road that must not be taken
Now, as an elder person, you know, or rather can figure out a way to explain kids about sex. However, because of several reasons, if you miss the opportunity to explain about it, kids shall find it in different ways. These ways may or may not be right, and might lead to life-changing experiences, mostly not in a good way.
- Prevention is better than cure
When you talk about sex, you not only talk about the process but also about the right and wrong touch. There might be some lustful relative or a familiar face who always tries to find chances to pounce upon your child. In such cases, if the child isn’t aware of the reality, it can lead to some serious mental illness in the future.
- That’s a check
It is important to make the child understand everything about sex so that when they try it, they do it the right way. Now, I am not encouraging youngsters to try sex, (who am I anyway) but knowing the right way and the word ‘consent’ are the most essential aspects. They are supposed to be aware of different ways of sex and the birth control methods.
- Healthy brain, healthy child
The more we exaggerate having sex, the more people try to do it in the craziest ways. Hence, when you normalize the concept of two people consummating, life shall be more peaceful and youngsters shall understand that there are many things in life that are important than sex.
