Life lessons from Plants

Even before I gave birth to my human baby, before I had my pet baby, Joey, I was a plant enthusiast. As a kid, I always wanted to have my own garden. It took me close to 25 years for that dream to become a reality. I love the perspectives I gain by being with plants, observing them.

Plants are the symbol of prosperity and abundance to me.

The way the leaves branch out, colors pop out, flowers dance to the wind, and the whole positive vibe provides calm amidst chaos.

My Small Garden

This is by far an interesting writing experience for me. While I was pregnant, I spent most of my time around plants. The silence made me think of ways different plants teach me life lessons. Here are some of them that I find fascinating:

Areca Palm

Whenever I see this plant, a sense of happiness releases in me, making me smile. I feel the enormous spread of leaves indicates opening your arms to embrace nature’s goodness and abundance. By being open, nature works wonders in your life. That’s the life lesson I gain from Areca Palm plants. One day, I shall definitely own one of these cuties.

Ajwain Leaves

This signifies health and strength. Amidst dust, wind, and many other hurdles, I have seen it stand tough and grow. Ajwain leaves have numerous health benefits. The legendary Tambuli is made using ajwain leaves, proving how nutritious and healthy this plant is. While we all find the Tulasi plant to be healthy, I see the Ajwain plant as an underrated source of health.

Croton

The colourful leaves of this plant brighten my day. It signifies the bright spirit that’s childlike – enthusiastic and full of life. I used to keep this plant at the entrance of my house. After a long day of work, when I would come home, just one glance at this plant would bring the hidden energy in me out.

Pothos

Pothos are easily grown, and they can be both an indoor and an outdoor plant, based on your convenience. During times when I am anxious or life seems confusing, I spend time looking at Pothos and suddenly feel the rush of peace in my mind. Pothos for me indicates a sense of calm and silence. No one notices them, but they carry such a powerful aura that only someone who is mentally at peace can carry.

Rubber Plants

Rubber plants are a symbol of strength and determination. When pruned regularly, they grow widely, and when not, they grow straight. Either way, they carry a strong character that is unique to them. Rubber plants teach me that in life, irrespective of what happens or what life throws at you, your only focus must be growth towards a positive direction.

Do you have any such lessons that you carry from plants? If so, do share them.
