“It was around 1 AM and there was someone in that room playing a piano. She walked alone into that room to check but the music stopped when she reached. While she was walking back to her room, she felt like someone was following her. But she was all alone in the house. Suddenly, she saw a shadow behind her! She turned back and was shocked by what she saw. What did she see?”

And suddenly, I woke up from this strange dream. I shouldn’t have seen that horror movie last night. How many felt this? Well, horror movies do have that brutal ‘charm’ to mess with people’s subconscious.

However, we still never stop watching them, right? Well, for those who agreed, here is a list of horror movies that I loved watching. If you haven’t already watched them, you can take my suggestion and believe me, you won’t get disappointed.

  • Life

The story is about few Scientists on a mission to study an unknown creature from a different planet in the space. What turned out to be a sweet little creature actually scares the bejesus out of everyone.

PC: Life

Well, this had to top my list because I am always fascinated by “everything space.” Trust me! It scares the bejesus out of you as well!

  • Train to Busan

How can I not mention Zombies in this list? Train to Busan is a story where what started as a simple train journey turns into a catastrophic event due to the intervention of Zombies.

This movie is bound to keep you on the edge of your seat. Why wait? Grab your popcorn bucket, God’s photo, and get ready for a rollercoaster!

  • Orphan

Kids are cute right?

Or not?

Orphan, as the name suggests, is a story of an adopted kid who assumed as an orphan turns out to be nightmare for the couple!

PC: Orphan

I would dare not recommend this movie for the faint hearted! This movie doesn’t really have any jump scare-y scenes, but mentally, boy! Are you in for a really dangerous game.

  • The Exorcist

This 1973 movie is surely ahead of its time. This movie proved the world that a 12-year old kid can scare the hell out of you!

This movie has jump scares, disturbing scenes, etc., and you need real guts to cope up with the after effects of this movie!

  • Don’t Breathe

This movie is about few thieves who thought, well, let’s go steal some money, not get caught by anyone, and settle in life. Little did they know that they are in for the scariest moment of their life! Will they survive this ordeal?

Well, I have to say, I did feel scared to even breathe! Just kidding!

Don’t breathe is one of the best movies that had a lot of jerk-y and panic-y moments. Two things to admit: I felt scared and the retired man is handsome!

  • Mother!

A story about how a mother suffers to rescue her child!

The storyline seems simple right? Well, it’s the execution that kills you mentally! WARNING! Please do not watch it alone and especially not during the night!

  • Yaavarum Nalam (13B)

A revenge story about a family, brutally murdered by someone, revealed only at the climax. The interesting part is that the eerie spirits narrate their story using a TV serial.

PC: 13B

To all Madhavan fans! If you haven’t watched this already, here is a suggestion from my side for the weekend! This is a big treat for all the horror movie lovers.

  • Final Destination (Series)

The basic plotline of this movie is that the main character and his friends somehow escape their death in a horrific incident. However, the god of death isn’t that happy. He kills everyone by the same order they were supposed to die only now, they die in startling situations.

All the movies under the franchise have succeeded to scare me to my last breath. Certain scenes where so disturbing that I couldn’t even watch them. So, watch these movies at your own risk (which you shall surely do 🙂 )

  • Raaz

The movie is about how a wife rescues her dying husband from the clutches of a revengeful spirit.

PC: Raaz

Well, for those wondering why this movie is in my list, this was the first horror movie that I’d watched. The movie that made me realise that I love horror/suspense genre.

  • Arundhati

This movie is about a queen re-incarnated to kill the powerful villain who is on a revengeful spite. Will she succeed or not?

Arundhati is that one movie which made me proud of the fact that Indian movies have the ability to compete with Hollywood movies. You might not agree with me, but this movie is a sure watch for all the horror movie lovers.

  • Tumbbad

Tumbbad is a fictional story of a family that prospers with wealth and the reason is the god that should never be worshipped. What happens when someone messes with this god?

At the time when, in the name of horror, we were presented with lame comedy movies, Tumbbad stood out with its bizarre yet engaging content.

  • The Conjuring

The Conjuring is a movie about a family that experience mysterious situations and how they survive it.

This is the first English horror movie that I’d watched and I was baffled by the thought of such a story. The first movie of this franchise is really a must watch, but the rest are totally your choice as I wouldn’t suggest watching them.

  • The Exorcism of Emily Rose

This is the movie about a lawyer defending a reverend who had performed exorcism on a girl. The opposition doesn’t believe in the possession of a supernatural power on the girl but the truth is yet to be discovered.

All the horror movies that involved exorcism have concluded to be successful. Post this dangerous situation, families have had happy ending. But that isn’t always the reality. This movie explores the risky side of exorcism and gives a new perspective.

I am sure that I would’ve missed so many movies in this list.  Do mention in the comments below those movies.
